Preventive Dentistry Includes;

  • Proper eating habits.
  • Oral care. (Tooth brushing and flossing)
  • Fluoride.
  • Regular dental check-ups.
  • Cavity risk detection.
  • Assessment of oral development.
  • Oral care education.
  • Orientation of oral habits (such as thumb sucking).
  • Sealant.(Fissure sealants)

When Does Preventive Dentistry Start?

It begins with the eruption of the first tooth. Oral care should begin as soon as the first tooth erupts. The earlier the visit to the dentist, the greater the chance of having a healthy mouth.

Points to Know

  • Babies should never be put to sleep with a bottle after their teeth come out.
  • Pacifier use should be stopped around the age of 2 years.
  • The child should meet his/her dentist between the first and second years of age.
  • As soon as the teeth come out, they should be brushed.
  • Meeting the dentist early and while there is no problem yet creates a positive image in the child.
  • Kids of the 21st century consume three times more sugar than they need. Proper nutrition is also an essential element of dental health.
  • The most important task of dentists today is to guide kids towards a cavity-free future with the preventive treatments they’ll put into practice.
  • Fluoride and Sealant are the strongest preventatives against cavities accepted all over the world.
  • Regarding orthodontics, kids should be examined at the age of 7-9 years.
  • The setting of a prematurely extracted primary tooth must be protected until the permanent tooth comes in.

Toothaches
Cleanse around the aching tooth. Gargle with lukewarm salt water and floss any stuck-on food residue. Give your kid a pain reliever you’ve tried before and take him/her to a pediatric dentist as soon as possible.

Trauma to Primary or Permanent Teeth
Contact your dentist without wasting any time. Every lost hour after trauma magnifies the damage.

Before Reaching Your Dentist
Clean the wound with warm water and apply a cold compress to that area. Save any broken tooth fragments, if any.

If the tooth has come out completely
Find the tooth. Pick it up without touching the root as much as possible. Milk is the ideal environment to keep the tooth until you make it to the dentist. Get to your dentist as soon as possible by preserving it in a clean container of milk.

Bitten Tongue, Lip, or Cheek
Put ice on the injured area. If there is bleeding, apply gentle pressure with a clean gauze pad. If the bleeding doesn’t stop within 15 minutes, contact your dentist.
